Designing a Driver-First Logistics Experience

Product designer | 2024 | Mobile app | End-to-end product design | Branding identity design

This is a driver app I designed to support drivers' on road work and improve operational visibility in a logistics business.

I focused on the end-to-end product design, including the core workflows, a scalable design system, branding identity design, and developer hand-off.

The resulting solution supports a more modern and transparent way of operating by improving the on road experience.

Some details, visuals, and branding elements have been intentionally abstracted or modified to respect client confidentiality and NDA.

Problem

As logistics operations scaled, visibility and coordination became harder to maintain.

Our client owns a logistics business. As logistics is a highly regulated industry, relying on fragmented tools, phone calls, and paper-based workflows made it difficult to track what was happening on the road, increased administrative effort, and created pressure from clients expecting real-time updates.

As the business grew, tracking on-road activity and capturing compliance data became even harder. Rebuilding legacy systems wasn’t realistic. The real gap was clear: on-road work was not supported by a digital solution.

What I focused on

  • End-to-end product design from discovery to delivery

  • Built a scalable design system using Figma variables

  • Designed the product’s branding (logo, colour, typography)

  • Close collaboration with the PM and client through workshops

  • Supported engineering through handover and iteration

*Reject delivery user flow diagram (modified)

Solution

Driver-first experience

A map-centred interface that keeps job details visible and helps drivers know what to do next, with minimal interaction while on the road.

Clear job flows for complex routes

Step-by-step job progress supports pickups, deliveries, and multi-stop routes without overwhelming drivers.

Digitised compliance and reporting

Paper checklists and manual reporting replaced with structured, in-app inputs.

Design system & branding

A clear visual language and component system built with Figma variables, supporting consistency across the app and future tools.

*Reject delivery user flow UI (modified)

*Design system variables table (modified)

Outcome

  • The client now has a clear, usable driver app to replace manual workflows and support daily operations.

  • The client now has a refreshed brand identity with a more modern visual language, helping the business present itself as credible and consistent across digital and physical touchpoints.

  • Positive feedback and smooth collaboration across workshops, product, and engineering teams.

  • The design system became an internal benchmark, later informing an agency-wide system and developer workflows.
